Will ChatGPT or Siri Recommend My Business?

Only if your business information is structured in a way these systems can read and trust — consistent name, address, phone, services, and hours across the web, plus structured data (schema markup) on your website that explicitly tells AI systems what your business does and where.

When someone asks an AI assistant "what's a good [service] near me" or "find me a [business type] in [city]", the assistant is pulling from a combination of sources: structured business data (similar to what powers Google's local results), website content, and increasingly, structured markup called schema that explicitly labels information for machines to read — this business name, this address, this phone number, these services, these hours.

A business without schema markup, with inconsistent information across directories, or with a website that doesn't clearly state what it does in machine-readable terms is harder for these systems to confidently recommend — not because the business isn't good, but because the AI system can't confirm basic facts about it with confidence, and these systems tend to recommend what they can verify.

This is a rapidly growing search behavior — more people are asking AI assistants for recommendations instead of typing searches into Google — and very few local businesses have done anything to prepare for it, because it's new and the preparation (consistent information, schema markup) isn't visible in the way a redesigned website is. Businesses that get this foundational work done now have a real first-mover advantage in this channel specifically because almost nobody else has.

Related Questions
What is schema markup, in simple terms?+

Code on your website that explicitly tells search engines and AI systems "this is a business, here's its name, address, phone, hours, and services" — information that's visually obvious to a human visitor but not necessarily clear to a machine without this markup.

Do I need to do anything differently for voice search specifically versus AI chat search?+

The underlying foundation — consistent information, schema markup — serves both, since both rely on similar structured data sources.

Is this included in a standard foundation evaluation?+

Yes — AI search and voice search readiness, including schema markup status, is part of the 33-criterion evaluation and is addressed in The Build.
